We had another amazing tournament this year. It was great to see some familiar faces and to meet some new friends. The mission of this tournament sets it apart from other tournaments in that the primary goal is to raise money for breast cancer patients in Vermont. As you may know, our donations go to the Cancer Patient Support Program’s Emergency Fund. CPS provides vitally important services for those in need – everything from helping out with the home energy bills, to providing transportation and lodging for patients in treatment.
This year we raised an incredible $70,000 for breast cancer patients in Vermont. This brings our all-time total raised to just over $500K. Along with player-raised funds, we gathered donations at several other events including a Pink the Rink weekend at Middlebury College, Middlebury Union High School hockey games and our annual tournament party featuring local band The Horse Traders at Two Brothers Tavern & Lounge. Our top individual fundraiser was Cathy Aragi of the Manchester Rusty Blades. That’s two years in a row for Cathy. Way to Go!!! Get all of the details on the 2015 Fundraising page.
This year’s tournament action spanned 2 days and included 11 women’s adult hockey teams from across Vermont. There were three divisions of play plus three Friends & Family games for our supporters to get some time on the ice. Get all of the details on divisional play on the 2015 Game Results page.
Our business sponsors really came through for us again this year. Because of their support, we are able to donate 100% of the player-raised donations directly to CPS. Business sponsorship helps the Otters and Mystix defray tournament expenses like ice rental, referees, and promotion, so that all funds raised can go directly to supporting breast cancer patients. Check out the 2015 Tournament Sponsors page to see who helped out this year and be sure to thank them for their support on your next visit.
Each year we have an amazing group of volunteers that staff the tournament. This year was no different. Our volunteers perform duties such as greeter, ice sweeper, timer, scorekeeper, and game announcer. Without each and every one of them, we wouldn’t be able to put on this incredible two-day event. Thank you!! We also had several folks that went above and beyond to help out. To see the full list check out the 2015 Special Thanks page.
